Adam has had extensive experience of the railway industry, both in the UK and worldwide, over some 25 years. He initially worked in the Operational Research division of British Rail, followed by Group Planning at London Transport, where he was responsible for much of the demand forecasting work on Docklands Light Railway. Adam has worked on several franchise bids in the area of performance and also on train planning and has undertaken statistical analysis for response times to LENNON queries for ATOC. He has also undertaken extensive research into the impact of train performance on demand, competition between rail and air in the domestic market and also into factors influencing demand for access to airports, one of the UK's largest growth markets in transportation.
Adam is an associate member of ATOC's Passenger Demand Forecasting Council (PDFC) and is also an Associate Fellow at Warwick Business School, where he tutors in the subjects of modelling and Analysis for Management and Economics of the Business Environment. He also tutors on the diploma and degree programmes of the Institute of Railway Operators. Adam runs his own consultancy, Adam Simmons & Associates Limited, and is a member of Independent Rail Consultancy Group (IRCG).

Adam has worked all over the world, in countries such as Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guinea, Mauritania, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam as well as many years working with British Rail in the United Kingdom.
