Gill Baker joins IRCG following careers in the private and public sectors of the travel and tourism industry and also in education and training. Appointed as the first woman on British Rail in station management in 1979, Gill has experience in the railway operating environment, international sales and marketing, and education and training. Key skills and experience include senior management level contract negotiations, managing partnerships, product development, market analysis, pricing and marketing strategy and promotional activity. Also, the teaching, training and development of students, staff, professionals and managers across several industry sectors.
Gill has a BA (Hons) Degree in Humanities, Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism, Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Passenger Transport, Certificate in Education and City and Guilds Training and Assessor Awards for vocational education. She developed and implemented HND courses in Travel and Tourism Management and was an Examiner and Moderator for Travel and Tourism further education qualifications. She speaks fluent French and basic German.
Gill is a member of The Association of Women Travel Executives and The Tourism Society as well as a member of the IRCG (Independent Rail Consultancy Group). Gill now runs her own independent sales and marketing consultancy, The Baker - Brown Company.
